Our Alfresco Candle is the perfect outdoor candle. A gorgeous blend of citronella, eucalyptus, lemongrass, rose geranium, and thyme essential oils hand infused with sustainably sourced soy wax, these oils will ensure can enjoy your garden or picnic in peace.

The idea for our Alfresco Candle came about after spending a summer in France where Simon unwittingly became an all-you-can-eat buffet! After a couple of weeks, even the French pharmacist felt sorry for him so Cheryl made some candles and a room mist in an attempt to keep the bugs away. They proved to be so successful after testing with friends and family that we added them to our range! Our Alfresco Candle launched at Hergest Croft Garden's Annual Spring Fair where they promptly sold out in a few hours and demand has been so high that they are now a permanent addition to our range.

Citronella (Cymbopogon Nardus) Essential Oil

With refreshing citrus notes and a distinctive grassy aroma, pure citronella oil is most famous as a mosquito repellent and can be incredibly effective at keeping pests away from your home. It also uplifts the body and reduces anxiety and stress.

Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus Globulus) Essential Oil

Known for its powerful, purifying scent, eucalyptus essential oil is often used to support the respiratory system but as it contains citronellal, a compound with a refreshing lemon-like scent, it is also a powerful bug deterrent.

Lemongrass (Cymbopogon Citatus) Essential Oil

Highly antibacterial, pure lemongrass oil has powerful cleansing properties. It is also a calming oil that offers a sense of relief when managing negative emotions and stress. With a high geraniol and citral content Lemongrass has long been used to repel bugs.

Rose Geranium (Pelargonium Roseum) Essential Oil

Rose geranium oil is a gentle, floral oil that is known for its calming effects. Rose geranium’s anti-inflammatory properties also help it to soothe joint pain and protect our overall health. Rose Geranium contains citronellol and geraniol which have a floral aroma that acts as an effective bug deterrent.

Thyme (Thymus Vulgaris) Essential Oil

Thyme essential oil has healing properties that have been revered by many civilisations over the years, and it is still used today to protect health and prevent illness. It has strong antibacterial and antioxidant properties, allowing it to fight infections and toxins in the body, and is deeply cleansing. Thyme oil is said to have a balancing effect on hormones, regulating mood and even helping to relieve symptoms of menopause. Thyme essential oil is a natural insect repellent with distinctive qualities. It contains compounds such as linalool, which emit a fresh and herbaceous aroma that repels bugs effectively.

The oils are blended with sustainably sourced soy wax by hand in our Wye Valley base before being hand-poured in small batches to ensure quality. Beautifully presented in a recyclable clear glass jar with a polished silver lid to keep your candle dust-free, small candles will burn for approximately 15-20 hours, medium for 30 -35 hours, and our large candles for 45-50 hours.

We only use natural soy wax that is sustainably sourced in Europe by our supplier. This means it doesn't contain any palm oils and is environmentally and vegan-friendly.

We don't use any synthetic fragrances, additives, colourings, or scent enhancers - all of the ingredients you see on our labels naturally occur in the essential oils used.

Soy wax can be sensitive to temperature fluctuations and you may notice some frosting on the surface of your candle, which is normal and doesn't affect the fragrance or performance.
On first use, burn small candles for 2 hours and medium/large candles for 3-4 hours or until a wax pool that reaches the edge of the container has been established.

Depending on fragrance, a full melt pool may not be established until the second or third burn but don't worry, this is normal as we wick our candles for a slower burn so you can enjoy the fragrance and wellbeing benefits for longer.
We want you to enjoy your candle safety. To get the best out of your candle, always trim the wick to 0.5cm before lighting and ensure any debris, including matches and wick trimmings, has been removed. Always burn candles on a stable surface away from draughts and anything that could catch fire. Always stop burning your candle when 1cm of wax remains at the bottom of the jar to avoid the jar overheating. Never leave a burning candle unattended and always extinguish candles before sleep. Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
We use natural soy wax that is manufactured in the UK by our supplier using soya which is ethically sourced from non-generically modified producers in Europe. It is biodegradable and vegan-friendly. Our supplier has confirmed this wax does not contain any palm oils and does not contribute to deforestation.

We purchase our essential oils from a reputable family business that we have worked with for many years. We only use high-quality vegan-friendly essential oils that are 100% pure and do not contain any additives or preservatives. Our supplier ethically sources each oil from reputable producers and bottles in the UK.

To produce a small amount of essential oils, a large amount of botanical material is required and this can put strain on the sustainability of botanicals used for essential oil production. We avoid using oils derived from the following botanicals which are considered threatened or endangered: Eucalyptus Radiata, Frankincense (Boswellia Scra), Sandalwood (Santalum Album), Atlas Cedarwood (Cedrus Atlantica), Bay Laurel (Laurel Leaf), Rosewood (Aniba Rosaeodora) and Vanilla (Vanilla Planifolia). We do use Cedarwood and Eucalyptus in some of our products but are careful to ensure the varieties used are Eucalyptus Globulus (Eucalyptus) and Juniperus Virginiana (Cedarwood) which are not considered threatened or endangered.

The glass jars and steel lids used for our candles can be recycled. The jars can be repurposed and make great desert jars while the lids are perfectly sized to pop onto drink glasses in the summer to keep out pesky wasps.

We use natural kraft packaging which can be recycled once the label has been removed. Delivery boxes are shredded where possible and reused as packing.

Although our soy wax is biodegradable we recommend donating any unused wax to Beacons Creative which provides employment opportunities for young adults with disabilities and uses donated wax to make fircone lights which are then sold locally.
