Product Care

Our reed and flower diffusers offer a simple way to enjoy continuous fragrance without a flame.

A little care can help you get the best from your diffuser, from choosing the right spot to looking after your reeds and protecting the surfaces around it.

01.

Handle with care

Our diffusers contain a flammable liquid and essential oils, so always handle them with care.

Never light the reeds or flower bouquet and keep your diffuser away from naked flames, sparks and other sources of ignition.

Keep the bottle upright and out of reach of children and pets.

02.

Location, location, location

Diffusers work by drawing the fragrance oil up through the reeds, where it gradually evaporates and releases scent into the surrounding air. â€‹â€‹

For the best fragrance distribution, place your diffuser somewhere with gentle air movement, such as a hallway, entrance or frequently used room.

Avoid enclosed corners, cupboards or areas with very little airflow.  At the other extreme, placing your diffuser directly beside an open window, door or strong draft can cause the oil to evaporate more quickly.

03.

Keep away from heat & sunlight

Keep your diffuser away from radiators, fires, direct sunlight and other heat sources.

Heat can increase the rate of evaporation, meaning your diffuser may not last as long, and the liquid is flammable.

A cool, naturally ventilated position will generally give you the best balance of fragrance and longevtity.

04.

Protect your surfaces

Diffuser liquid can damage some surfaces, particuarly polished, painted, plastic, leather or delicate finishes.

Always place your diffuser on a stable, level surface and consider using a coaster or protective tray underneath it.

Keep it away from electical equipment and wipe up any spills immediately, following the care instructions appropriate for the affected surface.

05.

Refresh your fragrance

For our traditional reed diffusers, you can carefully turn the reeds once a week, or whenever you would like a little extra fragrance.  â€‹â€‹

We recommend using gloves when handling saturated reeds and turning them carefully over a protected surface to avoid drips. Wash your hands thoroughly if the diffuser liquid comes into contact with your skin.

Flower diffuser bouquets should not be turned.  The fragrance will naturally travel through the stems and into the flowers.  You can however turn the natural fibre reeds within the flower bouquet.

06.

Adjust the scent to suit your space

The number of reeds you use can affect both fragrance strength and how quickly your diffuser liquid is used.

Using more reeds will generally create a stronger fragrance but may cause the liquid to evaporate more quickly.  Fewer reeds can create a gentler scent and may help your diffuser last longer.

You can adjust the number to suit the size of your room and personal preference.

07.

Freshen things up

Over time, natural fibre reeds can become saturated or clogged with dust, which may reduce their ability to carry fragrance effectively.

If your diffuser still contains liquid but the scent has become noticably weaker, replacing the reeds can help refresh it.

Replacement reeds and flower bouquets are available seperately from Wye Wicks. â€‹

08.

Refilling your diffuser

When your diffuser is empty, you can refill it using a Wye Wicks diffuser refill. â€‹â€‹

If you are changing fragrance, we recommend cleaning the vessel first and using fresh reeds so that the previous scent does not interfere with the new blend.

Never dilute your diffuser with water or add undiluted essential oils or other fragrance products to the bottle.

09.

Store with care

If you're not using your diffuser or refill straight away, store it upright in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat.

For best results, we recommend using within 12 months of purchase.

Once opened, fragrance longevity will vary according to the blend, room temprature, airflow, number of reeds used and how often they are turned.  Our diffusers can fragrance your home for up to 12 weeks, and often longer, depending on these conditions.

10.

If a spill happens

Accidents happen.  If diffuser liquid is spilt, wipe it up straight away and avoid contact with skin or delicate surfaces.  â€‹

If the liquid comes into contact with your skin, wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and water.  If it gets into your eyes, rinse carefully with clean water and seek appropriate medical advice if irritation continues.

Do not ingest diffuser liquid.

11.

Time to say goodbye

Once your diffuser is finished, our vessels are designed with reuse in mind.

Once completely empty, clean the vessel carefully in warm, soapy water before repurposing it as you wish.

As guidelines vary, please check local recycling guidance and recycle accordingly.

Exclusive handmade bottles

Our exclusive hamdmade Wye Wicks diffuser bottles are made by local ceramicist, Karen Tacey.

As  with all handmade ceramics, there may be slight variations in the size and glaze.  This is normal and part of the character of the pieces.

The bottles are dishwasher safe.  100ml refills and replacement reeds are available seperately.

Made with essential oils

Our diffusers are fragranced with carefully selected essential oils, combined with a high-quality vegan diffuser base to create a continuous natural home fragrance.

Cheryl, our founder and aromatherapist, has a long-standing interest in the way scent can influence how we experience our surroundings.  We thoughtfully select our essential oils to create fragrances that complement moments of calm, comfort, focus or uplift.

Wye Wicks was founded after our daughter experienced severe allergic reactions while we were using conventional fragranced candles at home.  It prompted us to look more closely at the products we were using and ultimately led us towards creating our own range of natural home fragrance.

We deliberately avoid synthetic fragrance oils and choose ingredients thoughtfully, with a focus on creating beautifully scented products using pure, unadulterated essential oils.

Essential oils naturally contain fragrance allergens, and some people and animals may be sensitive to them.  We recommend checking the ingredients and suitability of a product before use and, if you have any concerns, seeking appropriate medical or veterinary advice.
